Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture discusses further cooperation with EBRD in irrigation sector

Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine Taras Vysotskyi met with a delegation from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), led by Arvid Tuerkner, Managing Director for Ukraine and Moldova, and Jean-Marc Peterschmitt, Chief Operating Officer.

Taras Vysotskyi thanked the EBRD representatives for their support in developing Ukraine’s irrigation sector. He also outlined the work of the newly merged Ministry, stating that it will strengthen the Ukrainian agricultural sector and provide further support for European integration.

The parties discussed the establishment of Water User Organisations (WUOs) in Ukraine, the inventory of irrigation equipment, and its subsequent transfer to the newly created WUOs.

The Deputy Minister highlighted opportunities for attracting investment to reconstruct the Lower Dniester and Tatarbunary irrigation systems in Odesa region, as well as other investment projects aimed at modernising and upgrading engineering infrastructure.

It is worth noting that the reconstruction of the Lower Dniester and Tatarbunary irrigation systems is being carried out in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding between the EBRD and the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, signed on 11 July 2025. This envisages securing investment resources for implementing investment projects. The EBRD has previously allocated EUR 150,000 to support the restoration of Ukraine’s irrigation sector, specifically for conducting a technical-economic feasibility study required to initiate an investment project in Odesa region.
