Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food discusses future trade policy with the EU after 5 June 2025
The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine held a joint meeting led by Minister Vitalii Koval, attended by Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration and Minister of Justice Olha Stefanishyna, Deputy Minister of Economy and Trade Representative of Ukraine Taras Kachka, as well as representatives of industry associations and unions.
The meeting was also attended by First Deputy Minister Taras Vysotskyi, Deputy Minister Oksana Osmachko, and heads of the Ministry’s structural units.
The main topic of the meeting was the future of trade with the European Union after the expiry of autonomous trade preferences on 5 June, and the development of further agricultural trade policy, particularly within the framework of Article 29 of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement.
“The position of Ukraine’s agricultural sector remains unchanged. We support transparent and fair trade and a partnership that balances the interests of both Ukrainian producers and European farmers. A consensus on the export regulation mechanism must be reached by the end of July. Negotiations are ongoing,” emphasised Vitalii Koval.
Olha Stefanishyna provided an update on the negotiation process with the European Commission regarding Ukraine’s trade policy.
“Ukraine and the European Commission have reached preliminary agreements on an interim trade solution, which will take effect after 5 June and aims to ensure the continuity of Ukrainian exports to the EU. Both sides have agreed to finalise a sustainable format for trade cooperation by the end of July this year. The coming weeks will be crucial for achieving a mutually beneficial and long-term solution,” Olha Stefanishyna stressed.
Furthermore, the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food noted that Ukraine and the EU should be equal partners. Vitalii Koval underscored: “Ukraine is not a threat to the EU but an opportunity to become stronger together.”
The Minister also thanked representatives of agricultural associations for their analytical contributions and efforts in shaping a unified position for the negotiations with the EU.
