The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved the Action Plan for the implementation of the Energy Strategy of Ukraine until 2035 "Safety, Energy Efficiency and Competitiveness." The corresponding decision was adopted at the Government sitting on June 6, 2018.
According to the Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Kistion, this document is rather long and ambitious. It encapsulates measures that will be shortly implemented in order to improve energy efficiency and competitiveness of the economy and strengthen energy security.
"The main focus is placed on reforms in electricity and gas markets and the coal industry. Also, the Plan commissions line authorities to submit in the third quarter of this year a project of targeted monetization of privileges and subsidies to the Government for consideration", the Vice Prime Minister stressed.
It should be noted that the new energy policy of Ukraine encapsulates overreaching goals, in particular, reducing the energy intensity of the economy twice by 2030 and increasing the domestic production of both traditional and alternative sources of energy.
