  • The fire in Chornobyl exclusion zone is being localized, all radiation levels are safe, claims Volodymyr Groysman

    The fire broken out in dry grass in the exclusion zone around Chernobyl on Tuesday is being localized, the situation is fully under control  and all radiation levels are safe. Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman announced during the Government session.

    "It's necessary to tell the truth and the truth is that all radiation levels remain within safe limits", the Head of Government said.

     The Head of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SESU) Mykola Chechotkin presented the latest information on the accident. According to him, the area engulfed by fire is up to 12 hectares.  It became possible to keep the situation under the control due to combined use of land and air forces.  35 units of equipment and 150 personnel are working to contain the fire. Tons of water poured in by planes, reserve of the forces was formed. Radiation monitoring is under way.  The Head of SESU  emphasized the current radiation background is safe.
