  • Government adopts Concept of transformation of the military education system in line with NATO standards

    The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has amended the Government Resolution of 15.12.1997 No. 1410 "On the Creation of a Unified System of Military Education" (as amended by the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine of December 30, 2022 No. 1490), pursuant to which the Concept of Transformation of the Military Education System was approved, outlining the existing problems, main tasks and structure of the military education system, providing for the implementation of an exhaustive list of tasks and measures for the period up to 2032 and monitoring their implementation.

    According to the First Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine Ivan Rusnak, the adoption of this resolution is a logical continuation of the systematic work of the defence ministry on the implementation of NATO standards into national legislation and regulations to ensure the qualitative transformation of the military education system, achieving compliance with the criteria for full membership in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and the European Union.

    "The transformation of the military education system continues and is fully in line with the European and Euro-Atlantic course of Ukraine. The system of military education is changing to become more qualitative, more compatible with analogues in NATO and EU countries. By systematically building a modern model of military education, we take into account the need to comply with the requirements for its quality, professionalization of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, organization of centralized training of military specialists of the defense forces in the system of professional military education," Ivan Rusnak emphasized.

    According to the Head of the Department of Military Education and Science of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine Volodymyr Myrnenko, it is necessary to coordinate the capabilities of all components of the defence forces at the preparation stage, to give an understanding of how joint operations are planned and military decisions are made in accordance with NATO procedures.

    "The approved list of measures of the Concept for the transformation of the military education system, which we will implement in close cooperation with state bodies and military formations, which manage specialized military education institutions and other subjects of educational activities of the military education system, gives us a clear vision of how, in what terms and what results should be achieved over the next ten years," the director of the department added.

    According to Volodymyr Mirnenko, this approach will ensure the proper level of operational interaction of military specialists during joint actions as part of the joint military command and control bodies of the defense forces, as well as the acquisition of sufficient interoperability of the Armed Forces and other components of the defense forces with the relevant structures of NATO member states, establish interagency coordination of training of military specialists in defense issues, continuous educational and professional development of military specialists throughout their military career.
