Sergii Koretskyi: Government is working with community leaders to restore funding for non-priority expenditures
Prime Minister of Ukraine Sergii Koretskyi, together with members of the Government and the head of the State Treasury Service, took part in a meeting of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities under the President of Ukraine. Members of parliament also joined the meeting.
Participants discussed in detail the state of public finances and the strict austerity regime that had been forced upon the country, which had led to the postponement of certain non-priority expenditures in order to fully cover defense needs, salaries and pensions.
The Prime Minister said he understands the concerns of community and local government leaders over the decisions taken.
"I explained in detail the reasons and the logic behind them. At the same time, we heard many constructive proposals from communities and regions," said the Head of Government.
Representatives of communities and regions put forward a number of constructive proposals, which the Government will work through together with the Ministry of Finance.
The Prime Minister thanked community leaders for their daily work, especially in frontline cities, and for their willingness to engage in constructive dialogue and look for solutions together.
"For our part, we are working to restore the postponed expenditures as soon as we can. This depends on securing international financing and meeting all the conditions for assistance from our partners," said Sergii Koretskyi.
The Government and communities are continuing their joint efforts to get through this difficult period and fully restore funding at the earliest opportunity.
The Prime Minister also noted the importance of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities as an effective platform for communication with communities.
