Government commissions Ministry of Health to continue supporting medical facilities in areas of active combat

Department of Information and Public Communications of the Secretariat of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, posted 08 May 2026 20:52

Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko visited the regional clinical hospital and the regional children’s hospital in Kherson. Despite constant shelling, heavy workloads, and staff shortages, more than 3,000 medical professionals and 37 medical facilities continue to operate in the region. Many of them have adapted their operations to the conditions of constant shelling and are actively developing underground facilities.

According to Yulia Svyrydenko, the shortage of specialists in frontline hospitals is one of the challenges facing the continued operation of healthcare facilities in the frontline region.

“To address this, additional support has been introduced for medical facilities providing specialized care in areas of active combat operations, as part of the Medical Guarantees Program. In total, over UAH 1.1 billion have been allocated to increase payroll funds in Ukraine’s healthcare facilities starting in 2025, of which over UAH 176 million are earmarked for the Kherson region,” the Head of Government noted.

Thanks to this, hospitals receive additional monthly funding: UAH 12,000 for each doctor and UAH 9,000 for nursing and support staff.

Following a meeting with regional medical professionals during an on-site session, the Government instructed the Ministry of Health to carry out the necessary calculations and prepare a decision to extend this programme until the end of the year.

Another challenge is housing in Kherson. Commuting to work from remote areas of the city and the suburbs is dangerous. It has been agreed, in conjunction with the Kherson Regional Military Administration, to develop a new housing support programme for medical staff.

Separately, Yulia Svyrydenko instructed the Ministry of Health to continue supplying medical facilities in the Kherson region with the necessary high-cost medical equipment in accordance with established plans until the end of 2026.

“I would like to thank the medical staff of the Kherson region for their daily work and for saving lives,” said the Prime Minister.
