For 7 months of 2021, trade in goods between Ukraine and Australia has tripled to $117.9 million compared to the same period last year. Such indicators show the significant potential of both countries in the field of bilateral trade cooperation.
This was announced by Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine - Trade Representative of Ukraine Taras Kachka during a meeting with the Ambassador of Australia to Ukraine Bruce Edwards and Deputy Ambassador of Australia to Ukraine Robert Curtis today, September 29.
"The development of bilateral trade and economic relations between Ukraine and Australia is one of the important issues of mutually beneficial cooperation. The Ukrainian Government is making every effort to increase and diversify trade with WTO partners. In particular, the inclusion of Ukraine in the Australian System of Tariff Preferences (ASTP) can be a significant impetus for the development of mutually beneficial trade relations between our countries," Taras Kachka said.
The parties also discussed issues of cooperation within the WTO framework, in particular, the procedure for trade policy reviews, preparations for the 12th WTO Ministerial Conference to be held in November, intensification of Ukraine's participation in multilateral negotiations and discussions on agriculture, sanitary and phytosanitary requirements, impact of climate changes on trade, etc.
The Ukrainian side expressed gratitude to Australia for its contribution to the implementation of WTO initiatives and expressed readiness for further cooperation and participation in discussions on international trade in various formats within the WTO and at the bilateral level.
