On February 11, at a meeting of the Association Council, Ukraine and the EU will determine the modalities for renewal of the Association Agreement, as well as complete the procedures for signing the Common Aviation Area Agreement.
This was announced by Olha Stefanishyna, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, during a live broadcast on the Pryamyy (Direct) TV channel.
"At the time of the meeting of the Association Council, on the part of Ukraine, all procedures for signing the Agreement on Common Aviation Area will be completed. The signing itself also depends on the European Commission. If we manage in time to finalize all the procedures, we will sign the Agreement at the Association Council," stressed Olha Stefanishyna.
The official also noted that this is a rather important message for Ukraine's image in the international arena.
"The Common Aviation Area Agreement with the EU is free competition, the creation of a new market, increased access to the EU's market for air transport with 500 million population, cheaper tickets and more flights. Air transportation will become an affordable means of transport. And, given that we have a visa-free regime, it will allow us to increase contacts between people as well as flights between the EU and Ukraine," said Olha Stefanishyna.
At the same time, the official stressed that the Common Aviation Area Agreement is similar to the Association Agreement and contains a large number of obligations. Ukraine will have to seriously review its legislation, rules on flight safety and consumer rights protection.
