Ukraine to receive its first shipment of liquefied natural gas through the terminal in Klaipėda, Lithuania, says Denys Shmyhal

The Naftogaz Group, in cooperation with the Lithuanian state-owned energy holding company Ignitis Group, will supply 90 million cubic meters of liquefied natural gas to Ukraine. The delivery is to be made through the Lithuanian terminal in Klaipėda during February and March this year. This was announced by the First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal.

“In the current situation, when russia is attacking our energy and gas infrastructure on an almost daily basis, it is extremely important to diversify supply routes and strengthen energy security in order to guarantee a stable gas supply to consumers under any circumstances,” said First Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal.

As noted by Lithuanian Minister of Energy Žygimantas Vaičiūnas, the Republic of Lithuania has found ways to use its existing infrastructure more efficiently and provide real support to the people of Ukraine as quickly as possible:

"The LNG terminal in Klaipėda is one of the most actively used in Europe. Thanks to it, we can contribute to the reliable supply of gas and strengthen the energy security of our partners in Ukraine," said Žygimantas Vaičūnas.

Denys Shmyhal also stated that Ukraine continued to work on the development of regional supply routes, in particular the Vertical Gas Corridor. “Together with our partners, we are building a new European energy security architecture, with no place for the russian molecule and with Ukraine as a central regional energy hub,” noted the Minister of Energy.
