Ukraine and the United Kingdom expand cooperation in the energy sector

Minister of Energy of Ukraine Svitlana Grynchuk held a meeting with the UK’s Secretary of State for Energy, Ed Miliband, during which the parties discussed the current state of Ukraine’s energy sector and prospects for bilateral partnership. The talks focused on strengthening the protection of energy infrastructure, implementing innovative projects, and preparing for the heating season.

Svitlana Grynchuk informed her British counterpart about the challenges facing the sector due to ongoing russian attacks, including equipment losses, the need for urgent repairs, enhanced physical protection of facilities, and increased natural gas imports ahead of the heating season.

“Our immediate priorities are ensuring reliable protection of energy infrastructure and creating equipment reserves for the rapid restoration of damaged facilities. We are grateful to the United Kingdom for its steadfast support in these matters,” noted Svitlana Grynchuk.

Ed Miliband expressed solidarity with Ukrainian energy workers and reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to supporting Ukraine in countering russian aggression.

The United Kingdom has already provided Ukraine with generators, gabions for protecting facilities, and other equipment, as well as contributing over EUR 101.9 million to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund.

The parties also discussed the development of joint projects under the Innovate Ukraine programme, which includes implementing technologies to enhance energy resilience, producing green hydrogen, and advancing geothermal energy.

Additionally, they agreed to organise training visits for Ukrainian specialists to UK energy infrastructure facilities.
