Interagency working group on prosthetics system reform to be set up at the initiative of the Ministry of Social Policy, Family and Unity

An interagency working group on prosthetics system reform will be set up at the initiative of the Ministry of Social Policy, Family and Unity. This will be the first step towards a comprehensive transformation of the system, which should ensure people's access to high-quality, modern and timely prosthetics and rehabilitation. Today, on July 31, Minister of Social Policy, Family and Unity of Ukraine Denys Uliutin met with representatives of organizations involved in prosthetics and rehabilitation in Ukraine and discussed further joint actions.

The meeting brought together representatives of Protez Foundation USA/UA, Esper Ukraine, Unbroken and Superhumans. As a result, the Ministry of Social Policy, Family and Unity plans to combine the efforts and practical experience of medical professionals, rehabilitation specialists, and the country's leading enterprises specializing in prosthetics to ensure that people not only have mobility but also return to a full life.

"We need to take a comprehensive approach to this critical issue by setting up a working group, developing and agreeing on an action plan with specific deadlines and responsible executives, and moving forward with it. Our task is to create an effective, comprehensive system that will combine surgical care, rehabilitation and modern prosthetics into a single, holistic approach," said Denys Uliutin.

The interagency working group will include representatives of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and the National Health Service of Ukraine, experts, public organizations and rehabilitation institutions.

The first stage will involve the prompt development of a draft Government resolution on the establishment of the working group, as well as the preparation of the regulatory framework for the launch of the pilot project.

Together with the Ministry of Health and the NHSU, the Ministry of Social Policy, Family and Unity will audit medical institutions that can potentially join the pilot project on medical guarantees and have the capacity to provide comprehensive care to people after amputations: from surgery to prosthetics and rehabilitation.

The work on amendments to the legislation has already begun, which will allow to systematically change the approach to providing amputees with modern prostheses. This project is being carried out in close partnership with the medical community, the public and international partners.
