Ukraine and Slovakia sign Roadmap for Intergovernmental Cooperation
On October 17, in Košice, Slovakia, the Minister of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture of Ukraine took part in bilateral sectoral consultations between the Governments of Ukraine and Slovakia. The business events ended with the signing of a number of agreements and a detailed Roadmap for intergovernmental cooperation between Ukraine and Slovakia by Prime Ministers Yulia Svyrydenko and Robert Fico.
“Ukraine and Slovakia share a common vision of a secure and competitive European economy. Our joint Roadmap reflects this vision through concrete actions: strengthening industrial cooperation, expanding trade, and deepening regional cooperation,” said Minister Oleksii Sobolev.
In particular, the Roadmap for Intergovernmental Cooperation between Ukraine and Slovakia is a strategic document that defines joint actions in policies, economy, energy, defense, agriculture, education, regional development, and the humanitarian sphere. The document was developed as a result of joint sectoral consultations between both parties.
At the plenary meeting of the two Governments, Oleksii Sobolev announced the priority areas for bilateral cooperation:
• Development of joint investment projects within the Ukraine Investment Framework: four energy projects worth almost EUR 100 million have been supported, and work is underway to create a new portfolio, primarily for the processing and industrial modernization sectors.
• development of direct B2B links between Ukrainian and Slovak businesses with the participation of the Slovak Investment and Trade Development Agency (SARIO) and the Slovak Export Credit Agency;
• cooperation in the field of industrial restoration and development with the involvement of Slovak enterprises, technologies, and equipment;
• Deepening cooperation in the agricultural sector – from the development of the processing industry to joint actions to ensure food security;
• Cooperation in the field of forestry, in particular, there is already an agreement with Slovak partners to sign a memorandum on forests in the near future.
Among the key documents signed today by the heads of Government is the Agreement on Cooperation and Information Exchange in the Field of Labor Migration. This document strengthens the protection of Ukrainian workers, makes employment processes more transparent, and allows the two countries to quickly exchange data on employment.
The Ukrainian side also welcomed Slovakia's initiative to hold a Ukrainian-Slovak economic forum in Bratislava. In November, it will become a platform for presenting investment projects and hosting meetings between businesses and regional teams from both countries.
