Ukraine and the EU are working to speed up funding for critical needs of the Defence Forces

Minister of Defence of Ukraine Evgeniy Khmara held a phone call with European Commissioner for Defence and Space Andrius Kubilius.

Among the key topics of the call was speeding up funding for the critical needs of Ukraine's Defence Forces.

Air defence procurement funded by the Ukraine Support Loan

The head of the Ministry of Defence thanked the European Union for the latest €3.3 billion tranche under the Ukraine Support Loan.

These funds are vital for protecting Ukraine’s skies. They will fund purchases of drones and air defence systems.

Speed of funding is critical to strengthening defence

Evgeniy Khmara commended the European Union for the way it handles Ukraine’s requests and provides funding to strengthen defence capabilities.

"Speed is critical here. The faster decisions are taken and the funds come through, the faster the equipment we need reaches the battlefield and strengthens the capabilities of our troops," said Evgeniy Khmara, Minister of Defence.

Separately, Evgeniy Khmara and Andrius Kubilius discussed closing the shortfall in Ukraine’s defence budget for 2026 and funding requirements for 2027.
