On 28 March in Warsaw, during joint consultations between the governments of Ukraine and Poland, Minister of Social Policy of Ukraine Oksana Zholnovych met with Minister of Family, Labour and Social Policy of the Republic of Poland Agnieszka Dziemianowicz-Bąk.

The meeting resulted in several joint decisions that directly affect the welfare of Ukrainians in Poland, including children without parental care.

"In everything that concerns children, we must act in their best interests. We are grateful to the Government of Poland for supporting our efforts. Only together can we provide the best conditions for the upbringing and development of children who had to be evacuated from Ukraine due to russian aggression. Today's decisions demonstrate the strong partnership between our countries in the social sphere," said Oksana Zholnovych.

The agreements reached are as follows:

    • To jointly search for Ukrainian families temporarily residing in Poland who will take in children evacuated from boarding schools because of the war. Ukraine will return every evacuated child. Our goal is to ensure that these children live in family-based care after their return. And today's decision is an opportunity for children to be in family care right now.
    • Involve Ukrainian citizens in the care of children evacuated from Ukrainian institutions and resettled in small group settlements in Poland. This will provide jobs for Ukrainians, while the children will feel more comfortable and relaxed.

Cooperation will also deepen in improving social protection and support systems and bringing Ukrainian legislation and policies in the social sphere in line with EU standards.

The Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy of Poland stands ready to become an ambassador for Ukraine in its integration into the European Union and pursuing reforms.
