The GUAM International Center for Innovation and Technology Transfer will be established in the near future to become a part of the future GUAM & Partners International Innovation Development Corporation.
Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine - Minister of Strategic Industries Oleh Uruskyy announced on April 20 during the fourth meeting of the Working Subgroup on Science and Innovation of the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development of Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova (GUAM) held online.
Among the issues raised at the subgroup meeting was the cooperation of GUAM member states in the field of space technologies.
Oleh Uruskyy informed the participants of the event that earlier this year the Government of Ukraine had adopted the Concept of the Space Program for 2021-2025, and now the Ministry of Strategic Industries together with the State Tax Administration are working to prepare the Space Program itself.
"The main directions of development of the space industry for Ukraine for the next 5 years should be remote sensing of the Earth, production of rocket and space technology and ensuring Ukraine's independent access to space through the creation of its carrier booster and its launch, as well as basic and applied space research," noted Oleh Uruskyy.
Regarding the activities of the GUAM Working Subgroup on Science and Innovation, the Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine stressed that the decision on the expediency of its permanent composition had been made several years before. At the same time, Oleh Uruskyy expressed hope that the organizational process will not end with the formation of working groups, but will eventually culminate in the establishment of the International Corporation for Innovative Development GUAM and Partners.
"We will lay the first cornerstone in the foundation of this corporation in the near future, creating the GUAM International Center for Innovation and Technology Transfer. At the same time, we will attract new partners to the process. As you know, the Israeli government has expressed a desire to become a partner of GUAM, especially for cooperation in science and innovation," said the Minister of Strategic Industries.
According to Oleh Uruskyy, in order to effectively use scientific potential, develop and deepen cooperation in science and innovation, GUAM member states need to create a legal and information base for joint research and innovation, while it is appropriate to begin with the coordination of a list of promising research and developmental activities, within which to form a register of scientific research planned to be carried out in the GUAM member states.
The Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine stressed the importance of the space industry in the national economies of modern countries and the important role in the long-term economic development of states.
