Together with the EU countries that support Ukraine, the authorities have managed to implement a winterization plan. It allowed to avoid a massive outflow of citizens abroad in search of shelter during the most difficult period of the year, said Iryna Vereshchuk, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories, in her speech at a joint meeting of the Government of Ukraine and the European Commission.
People from dangerous areas are being accommodated across Ukraine, with about 6,500 places of compact accommodation organized.
“The government has managed to take control of the situation with regard to movement of people, their location, organization of everyday life, proper care and support in communities where they had found shelter today. Food kits, hygiene and warming items – all this was organized during several months of preparation thanks to our joint coordination,” the official addressed the EU representatives. “During these months, in autumn and winter, we have accommodated almost 400,000 citizens in Ukraine.”
