Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, posted 03 February 2023 13:04

Ukrainians will be able to continue communicating with their loved ones in the EU at affordable tariffs within the European free roaming area. The joint statement of mobile operators of Ukraine and the EU has been extended for another 6 months with the possibility of further prolongation. This was agreed upon during a meeting between the Government of Ukraine and the European Commissioners.

The European side also confirmed its readiness to approve an updated Annex 17-3. This is another step towards a free “roam like at home” regime with the EU on a permanent basis. For the period of wartime, Ukraine has been exempted from fees for participation in EU programs.

“Ukraine is actively cooperating with the European Union in the roaming sector. Now it is extremely important for our country to join the EU roaming space. Indeed, millions of Ukrainians have temporarily moved to different European countries and need to stay in touch with their families. For our part, we are taking important steps in this direction. I am grateful to the European Commission for its prompt and fruitful cooperation,” said Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov.

In addition, one of the priorities of the Ministry of Digital Transformation is the launch of 5G technology and accession to EU 5G transport corridors. We are now actively working on this, as it will bring Ukrainian communications to a new level of quality.

The EU noted and encouraged Ukraine’s work on transforming the telecom sector in line with European regulations.
