Warm Winter: Government to allocate UAH 6,500 for each child from low-income families and IDP families in need of support to buy warm clothes

Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine, posted 26 November 2024 15:47

Among the key priorities of the Ministry of Social Policy is to support children and families with children, including providing financial support to the most vulnerable families in raising children. As part of the implementation of the comprehensive Winter Support package for Ukrainian families, the Ministry of Social Policy is introducing a new payment called the Warm Winter.

This payment will be aimed at enabling parents from low-income families and families with children from among the most vulnerable IDPs to buy warm clothes and shoes for their children for the winter. As children grow up, they need to buy larger size clothes on a regular basis, children's clothes are often as expensive as adult clothes and shoes, while families' ability to buy such items is very limited.

That is why the Ministry of Social Policy drafted a resolution that has been approved by the Cabinet of Ministers today.

Under the resolution, starting in December 2024, families that are low-income families with children or IDP families with children who receive accommodation payments will receive UAH 6,500 of one-off financial assistance for each child under 18.

This assistance will also be provided to people with group I disabilities from among the internally displaced persons.

‘Parents of more than half a million children will benefit from financial support from the state, in particular, to buy the necessary warm clothes or shoes for their children. This is another important step the Government takes being a tool to support and increase the capacity of Ukrainian families to raise and care for children in this difficult time," said Oksana Zholnovych, Minister of Social Policy.

The new benefit will be paid in December 2024.

Please note that there is no need to apply for the payment separately. Thanks to digital exchanges and information available in state registers, the payment will be assigned automatically, and the funds will be transferred to the recipient's card account.

Please note: the amount of the allowance will not be included in the average monthly total family income calculated for other types of benefits (e.g. housing subsidies) and will not affect their allocation in any way.
