The heating season is underway across all regions of the country. Despite significant cold weather and ongoing russian attacks on energy and heating infrastructure, heat supply has been provided almost everywhere. Particular attention is being paid to frontline regions, where the risk of damage is highest.

As of this morning, 68,357 residential buildings have been connected to central heating – representing 96% of the country’s housing stock.

A total of 17,163 boiler houses are operational – nearly 98% of those prepared for the start of the season.

More than 98% of social infrastructure facilities are also heated – 24,149 institutions in total, including:

  • 11,257 educational establishments,
  • 8,972 pre-school facilities,
  • 3,920 healthcare facilities.

Connections have also been made in communities in front-line regions, including Donetsk, Sumy, Chernihiv, Zaporizhzhia and Kharkiv regions.

“We are entering a period of sustained cold weather, so it is critically important for us that Ukrainians receive heat without delay. We are coordinating and keeping this issue under control together with regional military administrations and local authorities. Thanks to the preparatory work carried out over the summer and autumn, heating systems are operating in all regions. The slightly lower connection rates in southern regions are due to more favourable weather conditions there. Special attention is focused on frontline areas, where heat supply is maintained under constant pressure from russian attacks,” said Oleksii Kuleba, Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration and Minister for Communities and Territories Development.

“The key focus of this heating season is increasing the resilience of heating systems through distributed generation. Today, more than 190 cogeneration units and over 140 modular boiler houses are ready for operation, while work to connect additional equipment continues. In parallel, together with donors and partners, we are working to further provide communities with alternative power sources,” added Kostiantyn Kovalchuk, Deputy Minister for Communities and Territories Development.
