Government simplifies provision of free psychological support for veterans and their families
Today, the Government adopted changes to simplify the provision of free psychological support for veterans, their families, and the families of fallen Defenders of Ukraine, developed at the initiative of the Ministry for Veterans Affairs.
This is another step towards implementing a comprehensive model for supporting mental health, which is a key component of the state’s veteran policy.
Specifically, the act:
- Updates the composition of the multidisciplinary team providing third-level psychological support, removing the mandatory inclusion of a social worker, as a veteran support specialist can involve a social worker when needed.
- Improves the procedure for delivering services to make it simpler and more transparent.
- Clarifies the process for calculating and paying compensation for provided services.
What changes and why is it important?
Accessible and high-quality support
The updated rules will enable more veterans to access timely and high-quality psychological assistance.
Engaging more specialists
Simplified requirements for service providers and improved compensation mechanisms will allow more psychologists to be involved in communities across Ukraine.
Efficient use of budget funds
New funding approaches will direct resources to where they are most needed – providing real support to veterans.
Less bureaucracy for service providers
Simplified reporting requirements for psychologists will reduce administrative burdens, allowing specialists to focus on their core work – helping people.
This is not an isolated step but part of a comprehensive state policy to support the mental health of Ukraine’s Defenders.
