Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko met with Secretary-General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Mathias Cormann on the sidelines of the High-Level Ministerial Meeting in Paris dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the International Energy Agency.
The head of the Ministry of Energy briefed the OECD Secretary-General on the reforms that Ukraine was implementing in the energy sector even in wartime. In particular, the Minister highlighted the adoption of a law to prevent abuse in the wholesale energy markets, aimed at implementing the REMIT regulation, as well as the continuation of corporate governance reform of state-owned energy companies.
German Galushchenko stressed that Ukraine had certified its gas storage facilities in accordance with European rules, continued to integrate its energy markets with the European ones, and had been highly praised for the implementation of EU energy legislation.
The parties paid special attention to areas of cooperation to achieve the goals of the green transition in the process of restoring and strengthening the Ukrainian energy sector. They discussed the intention of the Ukrainian side to decentralise power generation by increasing the capacity of distributed generation, in particular through the use of gas turbines, as well as renewable energy sources.
The OECD representatives confirmed their readiness to assist Ukraine in accelerating the green transition, support in the implementation of the Country Programme in the energy sector, and the development of renewable and low-carbon energy sources.
The parties agreed to expand cooperation in the relevant areas and programmes, as well as to cooperate in the preparation of the Ukraine Recovery Conference to be held in Germany this year.
