During a meeting of the Innovation and Hybrid Committee within the framework of the NATO-Ukraine Council, Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine Roman Andarak discussed the challenges facing Ukraine’s energy sector during the war and ways to counter key threats.

He briefed partners on the current state of the energy system and its immediate needs. He also emphasised that russian attacks had become more intense and calculated, with the enemy deploying over 500 different types of missiles and drones simultaneously, accompanied by cyberattacks.

“Since the start of the full-scale invasion, Ukraine’s energy system has endured over 64,000 instances of damage. Even during the so-called ‘energy truce’ in March, we recorded more than 1,400 new strikes. In 2025, russia has deliberately targeted gas distribution infrastructure. These are not isolated incidents – this is a systematic and deliberate escalation,” Roman Andarak noted.

He highlighted that to address these challenges, Ukraine urgently needs partner support in the areas of protecting energy facilities, cybersecurity, and establishing a strategic reserve of critical energy equipment in Ukraine for emergency repairs.

The Deputy Minister of Energy expressed gratitude to partners for their solidarity and coordinated support, and called for the stability of Ukraine’s energy system to be included among NATO’s critical security priorities.
