German Galushchenko holds meeting with Director of the Energy Community Secretariat Artur Lorkowski
During a working visit to Vienna, Ukraine’s Minister of Energy German Galushchenko held a meeting with Artur Lorkowski, Director of the Energy Community Secretariat.
The parties discussed the integration of Ukraine’s and the EU’s energy markets and preparations for the negotiation process regarding Ukraine’s accession to the EU.
A separate discussion focused on the new statutory documents of state-owned operators.
The Energy Community expressed understanding of the Ministry’s position on strengthening the role of state representatives in making key decisions within strategic state-owned companies in the energy sector.
Another key topic of the partnership is the restoration of Ukraine’s energy sector following russian attacks and cooperation within the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, coordinated by the Energy Community.
Both sides stressed the need to further replenish the Fund, as its resources enable rapid responses to the critical needs of the energy system, from urgent repairs to the procurement of costly equipment.
Amid the constant threat of new russian attacks, the stability of the energy sector directly depends on the Fund’s capacity to facilitate swift responses.
The Fund was established in spring 2022 through a joint initiative by German Galushchenko and EU Commissioner Kadri Simson and has become an effective tool for supporting Ukraine’s energy sector amid regular russian attacks.
Currently, donor contributions to the Fund exceed EUR 1.1 billion.
