Joint defence production projects discussed in Vilnius during Ukraine–Lithuania government consultations

During consultations between the Governments of Ukraine and Lithuania in Vilnius, the parties discussed joint defence production projects, including the development of interceptor drones under the Drone Deal agreement signed by the Presidents of both countries on 13 May. Lithuania became the first NATO member state with which Ukraine has concluded such an agreement. This was announced by Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko during her official visit to the Republic of Lithuania.

According to the Head of the Ukrainian Government, particular attention was also given to cooperation in the maritime domain, the production of maritime drones, and opportunities for implementing joint ammunition manufacturing projects.

Yulia Svyrydenko also noted that Ukraine had confirmed its readiness to deploy military experts to support Lithuania in strengthening its airspace protection capabilities and addressing modern security challenges. Lithuania, for its part, reaffirmed its intention to use the SAFE mechanism to finance joint defence projects.

“We are grateful to the Lithuanian people for their unwavering solidarity with Ukraine, which is backed by concrete actions: military assistance packages already provided and Lithuania’s decision to allocate at least 0.25% of its GDP annually from 2024 onwards to support Ukraine’s defence and security. Both our nations know the value of freedom and are prepared to defend it together,” the Prime Minister of Ukraine stressed.
