President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed an important law that brings us closer to European standards in the field of fisheries and aquaculture.

This was announced by Vitalii Koval, Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.

“We are talking about the Law of Ukraine ”On Ensuring the Traceability of Aquatic Bioresources and/or Products Made from Aquatic Bioresources". The document is part of our obligations under the Association Agreement with the EU and deals with a very specific but important topic - sustainable water management," the Minister said.

What is changing?

  • Clear rules are established for the traceability of fish and fish products - from catch to consumer.
  • European certificates for export, re-export and processing are introduced.
  • Control over illegal and uncontrolled fishing is toughened.
  • Protecting the interests of Ukrainian fishermen and businesses that operate transparently.

"This is not just another European integration change - it is about trust in Ukrainian products in foreign markets. It is about fair rules of the game for business. It is about responsible attitude to natural resources. As the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, I strongly believe that this is a step that enhances environmental safety, supports exports and opens up new opportunities for Ukrainian producers. And this is another example of how the agricultural sector and the fishing industry in particular are becoming part of the European ecosystem," Vitalii Koval emphasized.
