One of the agenda items  of the upcoming government meeting will be the initiative to halve the number of district and regional state administrations and to enshrine in the legislation the right of people to elect their leaders in their regions. Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman stressed in the program Freedom of Speech on the ICTV channel.

The Head of Government said that he visited today the All-Ukrainian Municipal Forum. And during the dialogue with the delegates, the city mayors and leaders of the consolidated communities the Prime Minister heard concerns concerning winding down decentralization and direct opposition of the district administrations to the amalgamation of communities.

"Tomorrow I will bring before the Government the proposal to work out the possibility of reducing regional and state district administrations by 50%. And the next Parliament should delegate the right to appoint regional executive officers to people. This is a new management approach and new opportunities for self-government. Priority (to elect leadership) should be delegated to communities - you decide whom you will elect", Volodymyr Groysman emphasized.
