Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal chaired a meeting on the implementation of land irrigation projects. The meeting participants discussed the state of land reclamation in Ukraine and the progress of tasks in this direction.
Among the attendees were: Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Roman Leshchenko, Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine Roman Abramovsky, Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Yuliya Svyrydenko, Head of Odesa Regional State Administration Serhii Hrynevetsky, representatives of the ministries and others.
"The President of Ukraine has set an ambitious task - to start land irrigation projects this year, in particular, to organize and launch pilot projects in Odesa region, which will later be expanded to other southern regions," the Prime Minister underscored.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister heard the proposals of the Head of Odesa Regional State Administration Serhii Hrynevetsky on the implementation of priority projects to restore irrigation in Odesa region.
Denys Shmyhal stressed that it is necessary to more actively attract investors and to work more productively in this sphere with foreign and financial partners of Ukraine.
"It is essential not only to restore the old amelioration systems, but also to build a new modern infrastructure taking into account the example of leading countries. One of the options for implementing this task is a public-private partnership with a company that is a world leader in this field, " the Head of Government stressed.
The Prime Minister dwelled on that the line authorities should not wait for legislative initiatives on land irrigation projects, but to already start working in this direction.
Thus, following the meeting, Denys Shmyhal commissioned the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food to speed up the implementation of objectives concerning pursuing land irrigation projects in Ukraine and to kick off negotiations to organize cooperation in this area with leading companies.
