During a meeting in New York on September 22, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal and Prime Minister of Japan Fumio Kishida discussed holding russia accountable for the war against Ukraine, preparing for the heating season and recovery of our country.

Denys Shmyhal thanked Japan and the Japanese people for supporting Ukraine in the military, financial, and humanitarian spheres, as well as in matters of imposition sanctions against the aggressor.

"We are counting on active and fruitful cooperation during Japan's presidency of the G7. We also hope for a quick resumption of the work of the Japanese Embassy in Ukraine, so that we can deepen our cooperation and make it more coordinated," said the Prime Minister of Ukraine.

The Head of the Ukrainian Government thanked the Prime Minister of Japan for participating in the second summit of the Crimean Platform in August this year and for providing almost $1 billion in financial support.

"We especially appreciate the allocation of $17 million for the purchase of temporary storage facilities for grain. This is rather critical for the further export of grain to countries that need it," Denys Shmyhal noted and added that the high-level event in New York on food security had proved that Ukraine fulfills its obligations to all countries, and especially to the most vulnerable.

The Prime Minister of Ukraine also told about russia's atrocities against peaceful Ukrainian citizens and Ukraine's initiation of the Special International Tribunal.

"We hope that Japan will support this initiative so that not only the military will be convicted through the International Criminal Court, but also that russian politicians who made decisions about aggression and the genocide of the Ukrainian people will bear the deserved responsibility," stressed the Head of the Government of Ukraine.

Denys Shmyhal also raised the issue of the heating season. He emphasized that Ukraine was sufficiently provided with energy resources, but at the same time needed to quickly restore hospitals, schools and housing so that people can get through this winter period.

"We will be grateful to Japan and the G7 countries for supporting Ukraine in the rapid restoration of critical infrastructure, as well as in the further reconstruction and modernization of our country," said the Prime Minister of Ukraine.

Fumio Kishida, for his part, assured that Japan and the Japanese people stand by the Ukrainians who are fighting for the protection of their country, and would continue to provide the necessary support. The Prime Minister of Japan condemned russia's holding of pseudo-referendums in the occupied territories of Ukraine and emphasized that Japan would work closely with the G7 countries to respond to these actions, including the further imposition of sanctions.

Moreover, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said that Japan was speeding up preparations for resuming the work of the Embassy in Ukraine in order to cooperate more closely with the Ukrainian Government.
