During a meeting held on February 6 under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, the State Commission on Technogenic and Environmental Safety and Emergencies considered the issue of restoring life support systems in the de-occupied territories of Kherson region.
“After liberation of Kherson, the President clearly defined a set of urgent tasks. These are: restoration of all life support systems, humanitarian demining, assistance to people who were under occupation and who have returned home, public safety – construction of fortifications and protective structures. We need to understand the complete picture of rapid recovery in Kherson region in order to respond to the challenges,” the Head of Government noted.
According to Iryna Vereshchuk, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories, 228 settlements in Kherson region have been de-occupied. Residents are being provided with humanitarian aid and all allowances are being paid. Evacuation from some settlements is also underway. According to the Ministry of Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories, humanitarian demining, restoration of electricity and communication are underway. Postal service operators, financial institutions, social insurance departments, etc. are gradually resuming services.
The Kherson Regional Military Administration also reported that 132 medical facilities (82%) had resumed operations.
According to the Regional Military Administration, almost 170,000 consumers (about 71%) in Kherson region are supplied with electricity. 30 repair crews continue to work. At the same time, more than 1,000 kilometers of power lines need to be cleared of mines to restore electricity supply. In total, more than 683,000 hectares remain mined in the region. 11 sapper teams have been formed to carry out demining.
According to the Ministry of Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories, an additional batch of Starlink systems will arrive in Ukraine in the near future, some of which will be sent to Kherson region to ensure uninterrupted communication.
The Prime Minister emphasized that efforts to restore electricity and communication in the de-occupied settlements of Kherson region should be significantly increased. Denys Shmyhal instructed the Kherson Regional Military Administration to develop a chart with information on restoration of electricity supply in 133 settlements, and together with the Ministry for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development to urgently ensure opening and equipping the Points of Invincibility so that people could get access to the necessary supplies.
Besides, the Prime Minister instructed the Ministry of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development to coordinate the provision of additional units of municipal equipment from the regions to Kherson region to carry out the necessary work.
