Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal chaired a meeting on the completion of the 2023/2024 academic year and preparations for the next one.
Participants heard information from Minister of Education and Science Oksen Lisovyi on the restoration of educational institutions, construction of shelters, provision of textbooks and school buses. According to the Ministry of Education and Science, in 2024, more than 7,300 schools (58%) are operating full-time, with more than 1.7 million students. 2,400 (19%) schools work distantly and 2,800 (22%) work in a mixed mode.
Denys Shmyhal reminded that this year the Government had allocated UAH 2.5 billion for the creation of safe conditions in schools. According to the Ministry of Education and Science, funds have already been allocated for 50 projects. In total, 10,500 schools have been provided with shelters. More than 5,000 have conditions for organising education in shelters.
In addition, the Government is providing UAH 1 billion this year for the purchase of school buses.
During the meeting, Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko informed about ensuring safe conditions for students in educational institutions.
The Ministry of Education and Science, in turn, reported that more than 12,000 generators were currently available in educational institutions. By the end of the school year, approximately 50% of schools could provide the educational process with alternative power sources.
The Prime Minister instructed the heads of the regions to inspect educational institutions to ensure they were prepared for the new heating season.
The meeting participants paid attention to the issue of barrier-free access to educational institutions. Another important topic was the education of Ukrainian children abroad.
"We must provide them with every opportunity to study the Ukrainian curriculum and maintain ties with their homeland," said Denys Shmyhal.
Among other things, the problematic issues and solutions necessary to ensure a safe educational process were discussed with the heads of the regions.
Following the meeting, the Prime Minister instructed the ministries to work on the proposals made on each issue and submit the relevant decisions to the Government.
