Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Taras Kachka met with a delegation from the NATO International Staff led by Director for Defence and Security Cooperation Piers Cazalet. NATO Senior Representative in Ukraine Patrick Turner also took part in the meeting.

The participants discussed the deepening of cooperation with NATO, including enhanced collaboration within existing mechanisms, further steps towards full interoperability, and the progress already achieved by Ukraine.

The parties also discussed the current state and prospects of practical cooperation, particularly within one of the key projects of the NATO Comprehensive Assistance Package for Ukraine – the Interoperability Roadmap.

Representatives of the Alliance briefed the meeting on the preparation of the 2026 Interoperability Report, a comprehensive assessment of Ukraine’s security and defence sector. The document analyses a broad range of issues, from defence planning, capability development and the level of Ukraine’s interoperability with NATO across the land, maritime and air domains to special operations and logistics.

During the meeting, the parties noted Ukraine’s substantial progress in meeting the established requirements and stressed that the country has already demonstrated its ability not only to receive support, but also to provide innovative solutions, technologies and unique combat experience to the Alliance.

The discussion also covered the importance of further improving Ukraine’s defence planning system in line with the principles and approaches of the NATO Defence Planning Process (NDPP). It was noted that this contributes to achieving interoperability with NATO, preparing for future membership in the Alliance, improving the efficiency of resource management and ensuring long-term planning for the development of the Defence Forces.

“Ukraine continues to heroically repel russian armed aggression while simultaneously transforming its security and defence sector. We possess unique combat experience that is also of great importance to our partners,” Taras Kachka stressed.

He also underlined the importance of systematically studying, consolidating and implementing acquired combat experience, which is possible through the full utilisation of the potential of the NATO–Ukraine Joint Analysis, Training and Education Centre (JATEC).

The participants also highlighted the importance of continued support for Ukraine, particularly within the framework of the Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL).

For his part, Piers Cazalet stressed the importance of long-term forecasting and strategic planning for the development of Ukraine’s Defence Forces, particularly in order to ensure sustainable and predictable support from international partners.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister expressed hope for the further development of a strategic and constructive partnership between Ukraine and NATO.
