The Ministry for Veterans Affairs is working on the possibility of automatic granting of statuses. This was announced by the Acting Minister for Veterans Affairs of Ukraine Oleksandr Porkhun on the air of the national telethon.
This refers to granting the status of “combatant”, “person with a war-related disability”, “family member of a fallen (deceased) war veteran and family member of a fallen (deceased) defender of Ukraine”.
The Minister noted that, at the initiative of the Ministry for Veterans Affairs, the Government had already simplified the procedures for granting some of these statuses by amending the relevant regulations.
“This has legally enshrined the possibility for people to apply through the Diia portal and veteran ‘single windows’ in the Administrative Service Centres for the statuses of ‘person with a war-related disability’ and ‘family member of a fallen defender’. However, we have to move on and are currently working on a project to automatically grant the status of ‘combatant’,” said Oleksandr Porkhun.
In this direction, active cooperation is underway with the Ministry of Defence and other law enforcement agencies to synchronise the data of the Unified State Register of War Veterans, which is managed by the Ministry for Veterans Affairs, with other registers of the security forces.
“After a person applies for the relevant status, the system will generate the necessary information and documents that will be the basis for granting the status of a combatant,” explained Oleksandr Porkhun.
