Today a scanner for heavy vehicles and containers was launched at the border checkpoint "Krakowiec-Korczowa", following a commission of Prime Minister of Ukraine Oleksiy Hocharuk.
"We are finally putting into operation a huge protracted project that has been going on for almost two years. These are stationary scanning systems. There are seven such scanning systems. According to the plan, they will be put into operation by the end of this year. It is a very powerful security tool that will help us in the fight against smuggling. That is why have faced a lot of resistance and today we are showing not what was or will be planned, but the results of our work now," Head of the State Customs Service Maksym Nefyodov stressed.
From now on, cargo scanning is being held without direct inspection by customs officials and, therefore, cargo is checked ten times faster, and the risk of influence on the results of customs inspection of persons interested in obtaining corruption benefits is significantly reduced.
"We need to retrofit and build checkpoints, buy and put into operation scanners, scales and integrated video surveillance systems. And, it is important to do it systematically", Maksym Nefyodov added.
The launch of scanners makes smuggling impossible and helps to fill the state budget by paying taxes on all imported goods.
Customs provides up to 40% of the budget revenues from which pensions, salaries for teachers, doctors, etc. are paid. Therefore, it is important to get rid of the “the great evil”- corruption, which was one of the main features of previous customs.
Scanners or stationary-type scanning systems are special equipment designed to ensure non-intrusive inspection of import, export and security controls.
