Germany increases urgent energy support for Ukraine this winter to EUR 120 million
The first two mobile cogeneration plants are already in Kyiv. They will help provide heat and light to 86,000 residents of the capital, whose livelihoods have been most affected by the unprecedented russian attacks.
Another 41 cogeneration units with a total capacity of 40.8 MW and 76 modular boiler rooms with a capacity of 89 MW will arrive in Ukraine shortly. This will help provide light and heat to millions of people across the country.
The delivery package also includes:
- 300 solar stations with battery accumulators for social infrastructure;
- 375 battery accumulators for backup power supply;
- 15 mobile hybrid generators;
- 10 pellet heating systems;
- 45 municipal and repair vehicles for urgent work on power grids, water supply, and heating.
German and Ukrainian partners are coordinating the delivery of aid within the shortest possible time.
"It is important for us that support for our people in the emergency situation in the energy sector caused by constant russian shelling and severe frosts is provided promptly, and I thank Germany for this substantial and timely support. The cogeneration plants we are receiving today will enhance the energy security of our communities," said Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko.
“russia's constant attacks on civilian energy infrastructure are a war crime,” emphasized German Ambassador Heiko Thoms. “Germany is firmly committed to strengthening Ukraine's resilience in every way possible.”
Germany is one of Ukraine's major partners: since the start of the full-scale invasion, it has provided Ukrainians with more than EUR 1 billion in energy support alone. This winter, EUR 60 million has already been earmarked for humanitarian needs and EUR 167 million for the Ukraine Energy Support Fund.
The courage of the Ukrainian people and their will for freedom are impressive. Germany stands firmly by Ukraine's side.
