Our focus is accelerating Ukraine’s economic recovery and EU integration: Oleksii Sobolev at meeting with G7 and EU ambassadors
On 26 August, the team of the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine, led by Minister Oleksii Sobolev, met with ambassadors from G7 countries and the EU.
Representatives from the embassies of Canada, the EU, the USA, the UK, Germany, Japan, Italy, and France attended the meeting. The Ukrainian side presented the priorities and team of the newly merged ministry.
“Our current task is to create a fundamentally new institutional platform. The Ministry oversees 70% of the EU integration agenda, covering 15 of the 35 EU clusters in key areas of economy, environment, and agriculture. As the national coordinator for the Ukraine Facility programme, we ensure the organisation and monitoring of the Ukraine Plan’s implementation. Today, our team is focused on accelerating the Plan’s steps and further EU integration,” said Oleksii Sobolev.
The Minister outlined key priorities, including:
- Development of the private sector and industry;
- Deregulation and economic freedom;
- Privatisation of state assets;
- Attracting investment and boosting exports;
- Digitalisation: two mechanisms presented for gathering business feedback;
- Humanitarian demining;
- Human capital development and a new Labour Code;
- State support programmes for farmers in frontline areas.
Representatives from G7 and EU embassies expressed support for the Ministry’s strategic priorities and readiness to provide consultations and collaborate to achieve these goals. The parties agreed to deepen cooperation on reforms, including privatisation, anti-corruption efforts, and deregulation.
Minister Oleksii Sobolev highlighted key upcoming international events in G7 countries, including the Ukraine Mine Action Conference (UMAC 2025) in Tokyo in October, the ReBuild Ukraine forum in Warsaw in November, the German-Ukrainian Business Forum in Berlin in December, and others.
The Minister thanked G7 representatives for their close cooperation with each country, as well as for their assistance in implementing reforms, providing expertise, and supporting Ukraine’s recovery.
