Bringing digital visa-free regime closer: EU integration plan discussed in Brussels, reports Ministry of Digital Transformation

The Ministry of Digital Transformation is working to ensure that Diia and Ukrainian documents are valid in any EU country. We are coordinating with the European Commission to adopt European rules in Ukraine that will finally remove digital borders for Ukrainians.

Our team recently worked in Brussels to agree on technical and legal details with our European colleagues. We moved from general discussions to specific joint work plans — here are the key results of the visit:

No. 1. We joined the Interoperable Europe Board. For the first time, we sat down at the same table with those who decide how the digital systems of EU countries should interact with each other. Now we are coordinating reforms in sync with Europe.

No. 2. We presented our progress in implementing an electronic identification wallet based on the Diia mobile app. Our partners highly appreciated the progress in implementing European standards for electronic identification and trust services. The next step will be to certify the wallet ecosystem according to international standards.

No. 3. We confirmed our intentions to introduce technical compatibility with EU standards. We familiarized the European Commission with the Trembita system and the Diia.Engine platform, which were developed taking into account European approaches to compatibility. Our partners agreed that these solutions will be the foundation on which we will build a common digital space with the EU.

No. 4. We are working together to ensure that Ukraine gains access to the Single Digital Gateway. Our team has already joined the project's working group as an observer. This will help to establish secure data exchange between registries more quickly, so that Ukrainians in Europe can access public services online easily and conveniently.

All this has one goal — to remove digital barriers between Ukraine and the EU. We are building a system where Ukrainians will enjoy the same freedom to use Diia abroad as they do at home, and Ukrainian documents and services will be available in any EU country without unnecessary obstacles.

Background information

The Ukrainian delegation's participation in the meeting took place with the support of the European Union as part of the DT4UA project, which is being implemented by the e-Governance Academy.
