Six western border development projects will be implemented under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) program. They were prepared jointly with Poland, Romania, Hungary, and Slovakia.
The program envisages modernization of road and rail border crossing points, access roads, truck parking areas, and the purchase of equipment for customs and border control.
The projects will be implemented on a co-financing basis. 50% of the funds are to be allocated by the states participating in the projects, and the other 50% by the European Commission. In particular, the program will cover the following checkpoints:
Yagodyn - Dorohusk
Krakivets - Korczowa
Mostyska II - Medyka
Porubne - Siret
Vadul-Siret - Dornești
Berezhanka - Luzhanka
Záhony - Chop
"The priority of the Ministry for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development is to increase the capacity of border crossing points. This is important for developing export logistics and optimizing traffic flows. The total cost of the projects approved by the European Commission is more than EUR 200 million. We are already working on developing new applications for the next year. We are also focusing on the development of border infrastructure," emphasized Deputy Minister for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development Serhii Derkach.
On June 6, 2023, Oleksandr Kubrakov, Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration of Ukraine and Minister for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development, and Adina Vălean, European Commissioner for Transport, signed an Agreement between Ukraine and the EU on Ukraine's participation in the European Union's Connecting Europe Facility (CEF).
The agreement allows attracting EU funding for the development of transport routes and support for sustainable trans-European networks in the fields of transport, energy and digital services.
