Ministry of Energy: Deepening cooperation with Türkiye shall strengthen Ukraine’s energy security
Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine Anatolii Kutsevol held a meeting with Ayşe Berris Ekinci, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye, to discuss prospects for deepening cooperation between the two countries in the energy sector.
Anatolii Kutsevol briefed his colleague on the current state of Ukraine’s energy sector and the consequences of russia’s ongoing attacks on energy infrastructure. He thanked Türkiye for the humanitarian aid shipments containing energy equipment that have arrived in Ukraine and described the current needs of energy companies.
The Deputy Minister outlined his vision for the development of Ukraine’s energy sector, emphasizing that Ukraine’s future energy infrastructure will be based on nuclear power, will involve significant development of renewable energy sources, and will rely on distributed generation, primarily gas-fired.
The parties discussed opportunities to involve Turkish partners in relevant projects. They also touched upon the potential for cooperation in strengthening the protection of energy facilities and in the nuclear energy sector.
During the meeting, the parties paid particular attention to deepening cooperation in the oil and gas sector. They discussed LNG supply, the diversification of supply routes, the potential for developing the “Vertical Corridor,” as well as other cooperation projects in the Black Sea region.
Separately, the deputy ministers discussed the preparation of a Memorandum of Understanding between Ukraine and Türkiye on energy cooperation, the draft of which was developed based on the agreements reached between the two countries’ presidents.
