Ministry of Energy: Trans-Balkan route capacity booking increased by 2.6 times

As a result of the auction on the RBP platform, 20% of the Trans-Balkan gas route capacity has been booked for August 2025. Earlier, thanks to the efforts of the Ministry of Energy, it had become possible to import gas to Ukraine via the Trans-Balkan route - through Greece, Bulgaria, Romania and Moldova.

Thanks to a new joint capacity booking product initiated by the Ministry of Energy and the GTSOU, the cost of transportation via this corridor has decreased by 25%, opening up new opportunities for diversifying supplies and utilizing Ukraine's underground gas storage facilities.

"The route through the Trans-Balkan Corridor expands Ukraine's access to resources from the south direction and allows us to purchase gas from new exporting countries. It also creates additional opportunities for European traders to use our underground gas storage facilities," said Svitlana Grynchuk, Minister of Energy of Ukraine.

The Trans-Balkan route has been available for booking since June this year and is already demonstrating an increase in market demand. At the end of 2024, the guaranteed capacity was set at 7 million cubic meters per day. The parties are now working to increase the guaranteed capacity to 11.5 million cubic meters per day in 2025.
