The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources and UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) will strengthen cooperation in the forestry sector and climate policy development. This was agreed upon by Svitlana Grynchuk, Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine, and Raimund Gerald Jehle, FAO Regional Programme Leader for Europe and Central Asia.
“We already have a number of joint projects with FAO in the area of forestry reform and multi-purpose forest use. We are interested in continuing cooperation in this area. We agreed to take into account the previous experience of cooperation between the Ministry and FAO and develop our initiatives,” Svitlana Grynchuk said.
According to Raimund Gerald Jehle, FAO projects in various sectors today cannot do without the environmental component. Environmental issues are inextricably linked to agriculture and food.
Svitlana Grynchuk updated the FAO team on the latest developments in climate policy, including the adoption of the climate framework law, the enshrinement in law of Ukraine’s goal to achieve climate neutrality by 2050, and Ukraine’s current partnerships to implement Article 6 of the Paris Agreement: “Today, we are actively working on the preparation of the draft Nationally Determined Contribution 3.0 and preparing to present it at COP30 in Brazil. We agreed to maintain a dialogue on the preparation of the NDC 3.0 and to work together in this direction.”
“I thank FAO for its attention to Ukraine. Today we are talking about the fact that Ukraine’s post-war reconstruction will be based only on green principles. Environmental protection permeates all spheres of our lives, so we are preparing to deepen our dialogue,” said Svitlana Grynchuk.
