On 27 March, in Riga, Latvia, Minister of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine Oleh Nemchinov, together with members of the Ukrainian part of the Intergovernmental Ukrainian-Latvian Commission on Economic, Industrial, Scientific and Technical Cooperation, took part in welcoming a group of Ukrainian service members who came to Latvia for treatment and rehabilitation after being injured while defending Ukraine from Russian invaders.
The bus with 27 Ukrainian defenders arrived at the East University Hospital in Riga. Their transport from Ukraine to Riga was organised by the M-help charity project.
The meeting of Ukrainian military was also attended by the Minister of Health of Latvia Hosams Abu Meri and the management of the East University Hospital.
The Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Latvia closely cooperates with the Latvian side on the issue of admission of Ukrainian military for treatment in Latvia. In particular, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Anatolii Kutsevol personally discusses and keeps under control this issue with the Minister of Health.
This year, the Minister of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine personally met Ukrainian soldiers and thanked them for their courage and heroic defence of Ukraine against the russian aggressor.
Oleh Nemchinov also expressed his gratitude to the Minister of Health of Latvia, the management and doctors of the Riga East University Hospital, as well as all Latvian doctors for their assistance in treating Ukrainian military. In addition, the Minister noted the great contribution made by the Embassy of Ukraine in Latvia and personally thanked the Ambassador for coordinating efforts together with his Latvian colleagues to help Ukrainian defenders.
It should be noted that since the beginning of the full-scale russian war against Ukraine, Latvia has accepted 545 Ukrainian soldiers for treatment and rehabilitation in Latvian medical institutions, including 63 soldiers in 2025.
