Nearly 1 million Ukrainian veterans and those who rendered outstanding service to their country received a one-off cash payment on Independence Day
For ten years in a row, Ukraine has been resisting russian aggression, and since 2022, Ukrainian defenders have been defending the independence and territorial integrity of the country every day.
On the occasion of the Independence Day of Ukraine more than 982,000 Ukrainians among war veterans, those who have special merits before the Motherland and distinguished themselves while defending the country, received a one-off cash payment. The total amount of payments was over UAH 1.1 billion.
Compared to the previous year, 2023, almost 140,000 more people received this payment.
“Spending on security and defence remains a priority in times of war, as preserving the country’s independence is equal to preserving our existence as a nation. However, it is people who provide defence. Those who volunteered for the frontline in the first days of the war, those who were mobilised and joined the ranks of the Defenders to counter russian aggression. Therefore, on Independence Day, we thank them, their families, and everyone who has defended the territorial integrity of Ukraine at one time or another,” said Minister of Social Policy Oksana Zholnovych.
