Elimination of consequences of Kakhovka HPP dam blow-up: first water supply line in Dnipropetrovsk region launched
The first line of the Inhulets-Kriazheve section of the main water supply pipeline, which was set for construction on the third day of the terrorist attack on Kakhovka HPP on the instruction of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, has been put into operation today. This first line will provide access to water for about 25% of the population of Kryvyi Rih in the Dnipropetrovsk region.
To launch the line, water is pumped from the Inhulets River to an underground pipeline by a pumping station. Then, it is transported through an open channel to the Pivdennyi Reservoir and supplied to the residents of Kryvyi Rih. This process takes up to 10 days. In total, the Inhulets-Kriazheve link consists of four lines, with the remaining three due to be launched in early autumn.
“I am grateful to the construction workers who are directly involved in the work and are doing everything possible to make the water supply system fully operational as soon as possible. To ensure maximum transparency of the project, consulting engineers and independent technical supervision are involved at each construction site. It is important that we have the support of international partners who understand the scale and importance of the project and help implement it,” said Oleksandr Kubrakov, Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration of Ukraine and Minister for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development.
Due to the russian terrorist attack on the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant, about a million Ukrainians have been disrupted in their water supply. In some settlements, water is delivered by tankers, and people buy drinking water in bottles.
The construction of the water pipeline is ongoing 24/7. The project is being implemented by the State Agency for Restoration and Infrastructure Development with the full support of local and regional authorities.
With the support of USAID/SACCI, a comprehensive technical audit of the project documentation for the construction of all three sections of the main water supply system will be conducted.
Background
