Cabinet of Ministers adopts decision to establish a National Council for the Protection of Children's Rights
On November 19, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine passed a decision to establish a National Council for the Protection of Children's Rights and approved regulations governing its activities.
The new advisory body will operate on a permanent basis and will become a key platform for the formation, coordination, and monitoring of state policy in the field of child protection.
“The setting up of the National Council is an important step towards building a comprehensive model for protecting the rights of every child in Ukraine. It will become a tool for coordinating decisions, reforms, and the implementation of international standards that bring us closer to the European level of child rights protection,” said Minister of Social Policy, Family, and Unity Denys Uliutin.
In addition, the National Council will ensure interaction between state authorities, the public sector, and international partners on issues of child rights protection, prevention of child poverty and social isolation, and will promote Ukraine's fulfillment of its international obligations, including the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and the implementation of the European Child Guarantee.
The main functions of the Council include analyzing the implementation of state policies in the field of child protection, in particular with regard to overcoming child poverty, participating in the development of regulatory and legal acts, and coordinating the implementation of strategies and international initiatives. Based on the results of its work, the Council shall submit proposals to the Government, prepare an annual report on the position of children in Ukraine, and report on the implementation of the National Plan for the Introduction of the European Guarantee for Children.
As a reminder, the Government has approved the National Plan for the Introduction of the European Child Guarantee by 2030.
