Investments in the development of educational infrastructure are among the primary focuses of the Government’s activities. This was emphasised by Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal during a presentation of new approaches to equipping educational spaces, laboratories, and workshops in general secondary and vocational education institutions.

The event took place on 17 April at a new educational space – the Museum of Mathematics, established at the initiative of the President of Ukraine.

Also in attendance were Deputy Prime Minister for Innovation, Education, Science, and Technology Development and Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov, Minister of Education and Science Oksen Lisovyi, and First Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko. Heads and deputy heads of regional state administrations, as well as directors of regional education and science departments, were also present.

“Every school shelter, every new computer or gadget for schools, every equipped laboratory or workshop – these are new opportunities for learning, greater chances for personal fulfilment, additional preparation for challenges, and a path to success,” Denys Shmyhal stressed.

According to him, the effectiveness of educational reforms requires not only the efforts of central authorities but also local authorities, who should actively collaborate with communities of educators, parents, and the public sector.

The Prime Minister highlighted that the state, in turn, consistently supported and assisted the regions. According to him, over the past two years, the Government has allocated UAH 13.7 billion for the repair and construction of school shelters, UAH 2.8 billion for school buses, and continues to fund this programme. Subventions are also being provided for classroom equipment. Additionally, UAH 3.4 billion in subventions have been allocated for the New Ukrainian School reform, with nearly UAH 500 million for equipment for upper secondary schools.

“Thanks to the comprehensive School Offline policy, we have already brought over 160,000 children back to in-person learning. Our goal is to increase this number to 300,000,” Denys Shmyhal underscored.

He also noted that the Government aimed to create conditions for senior students to make informed career choices, particularly by providing opportunities for in-depth study of natural sciences. As part of the modernisation of educational spaces, the main focus is on equipping facilities for natural sciences and technological disciplines.

“Our goal is to address the shortage of specialists with mathematical, scientific, and technological education. The demand for such professionals will grow even further after the war ends, when we accelerate reconstruction,” the Head of Government stated, adding that the foundation being built now would not only aid recovery but also drive the country’s growth.

“Every hryvnia invested in education is a guarantee of a better future and prosperity for villages, towns, districts, and regions,” he concluded.
