Service of the Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine, posted 12 October 2018 12:55

The regional authorities should  learn important lessons from the situations occurred last year  regarding the state of critical infrastructure in the winter.  It is worth citing such examples that happened in Priluky, when on January 19, 2017, the city was left without water supply, Cherkasy, which was left without electricity and water, and Kharkiv, where districts were left without heating and heat supply,  Kyiv and others. So the preparation of the technical state of critical infrastructure before the start of the heating season and the smooth passage of the winter period should become a top priority for the local authorities. Hennadii Zubko, Vice Prime Minister/ Minister of Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Utilities of Ukraine announced at the meeting of the operational headquarters of the State Emergency Service.

"Local authorities are to timely and qualitatively prepare a critical infrastructure before the heating season. I urge local authorities no to start  acting at the moment of connecting the heating system, supplying pressure or raising the temperature of the coolant, as is the case in many cases, when the temperature regime is reduced to a critical point in the winter. It should be comprehensive work", Hennadii Zubko stressed.

Apart from that, the Vice Prime Minister drew attention to the issue of preparing road transport infrastructure, as well as the necessity of deploying operational headquarters in the regions with a decrease in temperature or emergencies. "Everyone remembers last year's situation in Cherkasy region, when a critical situation with the provision of logistics and transportation for the transportation of people and cargo occurred. Therefore, checking the state of the road infrastructure and preparing the necessary equipment - the issue that should be under constant control of the local authorities", he underscored.
