Nuclear power is on the verge of a renaissance, and Ukraine, along with the rest of the civilised world, will develop this industry. This was emphasised by the Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko in an interview with the Yedyni Novyny (United News) National Telethon.
"We have made great progress in nuclear energy. We have plans to build nuclear units at Khmelnytsky NPP. These are real projects for which we will already be purchasing equipment," he stressed.
The Minister of Energy reminded that the COP28 global climate summit's participants had adopted a declaration on the need to triple nuclear power capacity by 2050.
"It is important that this is now a global trend. The renaissance of nuclear energy will take place, because lacking it green transition is impossible," the Minister stressed.
At the same time, German Galushchenko noted that any nuclear incident at the russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP could stop this renaissance. Therefore, it is vital to de-occupy ZNPP as soon as possible and transfer the plant under full control of the Ukrainian operator.
