Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Lithuania to Ukraine Inga Stanytė-Toločkienė.
The head of the Ministry of Energy informed the Ambassador about the consequences of russian attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities, which the enemy systematically carries out with various types of weapons, as well as measures to maintain the stability of the energy system and restore the destroyed facilities.
Particular attention was paid to the threats to nuclear and radiation safety due to Russian attacks on substations that are critical to Ukrainian NPPs.
“russia has again and again created threats of a nuclear incident by launching its combat drones over Ukrainian nuclear power plants or attacking substations that are critical for nuclear generation. These reckless actions of russian terrorists can not only lead to a nuclear catastrophe that will be felt by the entire continent, but also put an end to the development of nuclear energy worldwide,” emphasised German Galushchenko.
In this context, the Minister noted the importance of the IAEA missions to critical Ukrainian NPPs and their documentation of violations resulting from the Russian attacks.
The situation with the threats posed by the russian occupation of Europe’s largest nuclear power plant, Zaporizhzhia NPP, was also discussed.
The parties also discussed energy security in the region, the cessation of russian gas transportation through Ukraine, alternative gas supply routes and energy supplies in general. They stressed the need to coordinate cooperation, primarily within the EU, to support Europe’s energy stability and increase pressure on russia.
German Galushchenko thanked the Ambassador for the assistance provided by Lithuania to the Ukrainian energy sector since the first days of the full-scale russian invasion. Energy companies have received 183 humanitarian cargoes totalling over 3,200 tonnes of energy equipment from Lithuanian partners, including critical equipment for repairing thermal generation and powerful autotransformers.
For her part, Inga Stanytė-Toločkienė assured that Lithuania would continue to support Ukraine and help the Ukrainian energy sector.
