Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman gave instructions to start immediate inspections of public places, first and foremost, hotels and sanatoriums because of the fire that happened today, on August 17, in one of the hotels of Odessa which has killed 8 people. Commenting on the order, the Prime Minister stressed: "I commissioned to begin immediate large-scale inspections of public places, especially hotels and resorts".
The Head of Government expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and thanked the rescuers for their concerted actions and quick elimination of the fire. "A horrible tragedy. My condolences to the relatives of the dead. I thank the rescuers who selflessly managed to eliminate the fire and rescued people from the trap," the Prime Minister said.
The Prime Minister stressed that those responsible for the deaths should be severely punished.
On August 17, a message about a fire at the Tokyo Star hotel in Odesa was received by the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SESU) at 1:34. 13 units of equipment and 65 personnel were involved in extinguishing the fire. They managed to eliminate fire on 1,000 square meters area at 4:32. As a result of the incident, 8 people died, another 10 were injured. The operational group of the main department of the SESU in Odesa region is working on the ground.
